IV Quality Control

4-1 Sampling Inspection

I: Inspection Staff

V: Visitor

V: I have a question. What is the difference between quality assurance and quality control?

H: Quality assurance means that quality is assured at a specific level. Quality control is a system of methods by which products are economically manufactured. We can say that quality assurance is a contract between clients and manufacturers based on specifications.

V: I understand.

I: The quality of the finished products is checked in this QC room. The QC staff are performing a sampling test.

V: Quality control has been labeled as the identifying and controlling of variability. Which one is a measure of variability, the size of a lot or the variance?

I: The variance.

V: When is it necessary for each product in a lot to be inspected?

I: This inspection is needed when all of the products can be easily inspected, when even one defective item may cause injury to humans, or when the defective item can cause a huge financial loss; for example, a brake operation test for an automobile.

V: Oh, I see. When is a sampling Inspection carried out?
